John (Larry) James Smith passed away October 12, 2016.

He leaves behind his sons, Sean Smith and Aaron Armstrong, and his sister, Joey Goff. He also leaves behind many friends who were family to him in recent years. He was preceded in death by his youngest son, Dana Smith.

He served in the US Navy during Vietnam; after leaving the service, he became a professional hairdresser. He spent many years at his trade, participating in contests and even opening a children’s salon in the earlier part of his career. He retired several years ago and spent his remaining time with friends, performing karaoke, and just taking time for himself. He was a man who lived with creative visions and a talent for turning them into the tangible, whether it was a complex scene of a Civil War battle with miniatures or the merging of mythical creatures together for a fantasy hair competition. He will be remembered fondly for the creative pieces of himself that he shared with others.
